On April 12, 2011 new bag limits for the 2011-2012 White-tailed Deer Hunting Seasons have been adopted by the Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. The Commission has declared a surplus deer population and has amended the bag limits to rectify this condition.
Public hunting grounds near Tunica, Mississippi located in Zone 3 of Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks are located north and south of Interstate 20 and west of Interstate 55 and west of U.S. Highway 61.
A summary of the changes adopted for the 2011-2012 White-tailed Deer Hunting Seasons in Zone 3 include:
Archery hunting of male and female deer on private and open public land is permitted October 1, 2011 to November 18, 2011.
Antlerless deer only hunted with an early primitive weapon is permitted on private and open public land from November 7 to 18, 2011.
Deer, male and female, may be hunted with gun and dogs on private land and legal bucks only on open public land from November 19, 2011 to December 1, 2011. Another gun and dog session is permitted December 24, 2011 to January 18, 2012.
Hunting with a primitive weapon of male and female deer is permitted on private and open public land December 2 to 15, 2011.
Deer, male and female, may be hunted by gun without dogs on private land December 16 to 23, 2011.
Archery and primitive weapon hunting for male and female deer on private land and open public land is permitted January 19 to 31, 2012.
Statewide Special Deer Hunts in Zones 1, 2 and 3 are scheduled for November 19, 2011 to January 18, 2012. This involves the hunting of male and female deer on private and open public land.
Youth Deer Hunts are permitted in Zones 1 and 3 on private lands and authorized state and federal lands November 5, 2011 to January 31, 2012. Participants of Youth Deer Hunts must be at least fifteen years of age or younger.
Bag Limits in Zone 3
The bag limit is one antlered buck deer per day, no more than three bucks per license year. In Zone, a legal buck is an antlered buck deer with a minimum spread of twelve inches or a minimum beam length of fifteen inches.
The bag limit for antlerless deer is one per day and no more than five per license year. An antlerless deer is a female or male deer with no antler above the hairline.
Archery weapons include longbows, compound bows, and recurves with no minimum or maximum draw weight. Mechanical and fixed broadheads are permitted and minimum arrow length is unspecified.
Primitive weapons include primitive firearms and crossbows.
Guns include primitive firearms, crossbows and modern firearms with no caliber or magazine capacity restrictions.
